Dave’s Good Stuff

Where Two Words Come Together as One

I live in Shawnee, KS. I graduated with a BSW from KU‘s School of Social Welfare in 1996. Unlike many of my peers (but like more than a few), and much to the chagrin of my advisor, I decided not to pursue a career in the helping arts. Instead, I chose computers… more specifically, web development.

I’m a J.R.R. Tolkien fanatic. Have been since waaaaay before the movies came out (unless you count the Bakshi or Bass and Rankin animated movies… I certainly don’t). I love the depth and detail of the world(s) he created. I’m certainly not alone when I say that it has influenced me in many many ways. It’s sad, really, but I know more about the history of Arda than I do about the “Real World“. While Tolkien has pretty much eclipsed the Fantasy genre as far as I’m concerned, in terms of more serious science fiction, Frank Herbert’s Dune reigns. I only recently started reading them, inspired by the SciFi mini-series, and have found them to be everything my friends have said they are, and more.

I love listening to music late at night, right before bed when I’m tired, but not quite ready to surrender to sleep. Something about my state of mind at that time just seems to embrace the music in a way that no other time of day allows.
